The Elephant will be addressed

The Bible never condoms rape. Lets settle this once and for all.

Opposes of Biblical morality offend use Deuteronomy 22:28-29 to suggest the God of the Bible condones rape.  They make this claim even though the Bible consistently speaks against fornication and exhorts people to love others as themselves.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 reads, "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver.  He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."

As with most of the verses Bible skeptics use, this verse is grossly taken out of context.  The context involves understanding the culture and the time these scripture were written. This is important because our understanding of terms and concepts is not always consistent with the terms and concepts of people 4000 years ago.

Rape in the Bible
In Old Testament times a woman could not give consent for sex. If a man had sex with a woman without marrying her and without consent from her father it would be considered rape.

This verse is not talking about rape as many people today refer to it.  It's not referring to a situation of a man physically forcing himself on a woman.  Its verse is referring to premarital sex. Since a woman's father was suppose to select her a husband if a man had premarital sex with her that was considered rape by the man and both are guilty.  This is why this verse says , if THEY are found. Not, if HE is found. This implies that both are at fault.

In our terms this equates to, a man can not go around sleeping with different women.  If a man has sex with a woman he must marry her and stay with her and take care of her for ever.  The verse quoted above actually holds men and women to a much higher standard then what most men and women practice today.

The assertion that the Bible support rape is absurd.

Many try to used this verse to slander the Word of God.  The issue is not with the Word of God but with peoples understand of God's Word.

Many people are loosing faith in the validity of the Bible because social media does a great job of misrepresenting God's Word. People forward lies and other accept the lies because deep down they think if they discard the Bible by discrediting it, they think they won't have to live according to God's purpose.

The God of the Bible is a loving and just God and does not condone rape because that goes against His will.
